Part Screening, Business Case & Qualification

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5pxXp61I-4

In this release, we are excited to introduce orientation handling, a significant enhancement to our manufacturability checks.

Part Orientation Ensures Best Manufacturability

Manufacturability assessments rely on part orientation for specific technologies. With the latest enhancement in the 3YOURMIND platform, users can now directly adjust part orientation. This enhancement enables more accurate assessments by considering multiple orientations, offering users reliable insights that support better decision-making.

The example above illustrates how the original design has a specific orientation that leads to numerous support structures. While manufacturing may proceed in this original orientation for Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS), it triggers a warning due to the increased number of support structures that must be removed. This extends post-processing time, reduces productivity, and increases costs and build time.

In contrast, the new handling orientation feature allows end-users to adjust the part orientation to minimize support volume and overhanging areas. This adjustment generates a reoriented part while recalculating manufacturability checks. The support structure manufacturability check is now marked as "review," reflecting that the support area has been reduced to a typically acceptable level for this technology.

All manufacturability checks are configurable in the Admin Panel, with default settings derived from our participation in the Industrial and Academic research project HTA 2.0.

Part Orientation Ensures Best Price Estimate

Handling part orientation directly within the platform also influences financial data, offering more accurate price estimates based on the selected orientation. Since orientation affects factors like supports, nesting, and post-processing, optimizing it can boost productivity and significantly reduce overall manufacturing costs.

What are the Options for Part Orientation?

The orientation feature offers multiple options, allowing you to choose the best one to match your production needs:

  • Min Z Height: Reduces printing time.

  • Min Support Volume: Reduces print time, post-processing, and material waste.

  • Min Support Area: Reduces print time and post-processing.

You can also manually fine-tune the orientation based on these options: Manual, Min Z Height, Min Support Volume, or Min Support Area. Additionally, you can always return to the original "as-uploaded" position.

Quality Management & Machine Connection

Internal Comments Are Now The Default on Draft Quotes

Public comments are now disabled on draft quotes, ensuring that these quotes are not visible to end customers. As a result, customers will not receive email notifications for comments made on drafts, which helps maintain confidentiality during the quoting process. Internal comments and service user notifications will remain unaffected.

Other improvements

Speed Improvement for CSV Export of Orders, Quotes, Jobs

We have optimized our CSV export functionality to enhance performance significantly. On average, export speeds for orders, quotes, and MES jobs have increased by 90%. This improvement lets you generate exports faster, even for larger CSV files covering extended time ranges.

This enhancement has been backported and is available starting from version 24.5.

Bug fixes

  • The viewer is not displaying parts in AMPI, but thumbnails still appear in the parts list.

  • The production sheet does not display the full order ID.

  • Resolve the issue with multiple attachment uploads in the ST detail views.

Administration Actions

Adjust QuoteCreated Webhook Timing for Draft Quotes

The QuoteCreated webhook will now be triggered when a draft quote is created rather than when it is published. This update allows users to work with quotes that are already in draft mode.

There will be no change in functionality for quotes that are created and published instantly (i.e., quotes that were never in draft mode).

See also our API documentation.

This functionality was backported to be available from version 24.8 onwards.
