Part Screening, Business Case & Qualification

Manufacturability Checks Based on DfAM Guidelines (Beta)

Introduce with the latest 24.9 release a new way of assessing technology fit with better considering part geometry.

As before, knowing the original material, technology will be filtered and proposed by the platform. However at anytime, it would still be possible to assess a geometry for a technology that does not fit the original material, either if a material switch is possible or if a part intend to be prototyped in a given tech (SLS) and mass produced in another one (MBJ).

As a beta, this feature is enabled via a toggle switch and available under the technology tab, aiming to replace legacy Technology Check bringing more feedback to designers when it comes to design a part and make it fit to a technology.

This feature brings at a glace an overall assessment with 4 levels:

  • Good: No design issues had been found.

  • Review: The part is likely manufacturable in this technology. However there are minor design issues that should be reviewed.

  • Warning: The part might be manufacturable in this technology. However there are major design issues that must be reviewed.

  • Redesign: The part is not manufacturable as is. It might be possible to redesign the part to make it fit.

This overall assessment is based on new geometry checks, including legacy technology checks:

  • Material Class: Indicates whether the technology can produce the configured material.

  • Maximum Size: Determines whether the model fits into the printer’s build chamber.

  • Support Structure: Determines areas of the 3D model that have a lot of  overhang which might need support, depending on the technology.

  • Wall Thickness: The thickness of the 3D model at every point of the surface. Thin areas can cause the model to break.

  • Holes: Determines cylindrical cavities in the 3D model, through or blind and with optionally shaped openings (countersunk, counterbored, …).

  • Aspect Ratio: Determines divisions of the extents of a 3D model. Used to identify long, thin shapes.

Better User Guidance During Job Creation

This update significantly enhances the user experience by improving error handling during MES job creation. When MES operators select sequences for a new job, our system now validates compatibility before allowing the job creation process to proceed. This preemptive validation ensures that operators are clearly informed of any issues with their sequence selections, such as workflow or workstation incompatibilities. If a job creation attempt fails, the system provides detailed error messages specifying the reasons, allowing users to easily identify and rectify the issues without leaving the job creation interface.
